Mapped Out Solutions was built by operators, engineers and managers who know the realities of high-risk work. We help teams plan better, communicate clearly and deliver with consistency through practical systems and tools that work in tough environments.
Who we are
Running complex operations takes structure, clarity and a plan you can trust. MOS was built by people who know that pressure firsthand. Before we designed systems, we ran them. We’ve been underground, on the floor and in control rooms where one wrong move can cost millions or put people at risk.
We’re operators, engineers and problem-solvers with long experience across mining, manufacturing, logistics, energy and other high-risk sectors. That lived experience shapes everything we build.
We started MOS because too many teams were working with whiteboards, outdated processes and systems that couldn’t keep up. We knew there was a better way. A way that brings people, planning and practical tools together so every shift runs with purpose and control.
Today, we help teams create stable, repeatable ways of working that strengthen safety and improve day-to-day performance.

Matt Way is a Co-Founder and Director of Mapped Out Solutions, a collaborative coal mining company that works with senior management teams to develop, implement and manage mining operations, training, software systems and people. His goal is always to deliver maximum financial and human resource output.
Loz Hemmings
Director and Mining Automation Specialist
Lauris (Loz) Hemmings is a Co-Founder and Director of Mapped Out Solutions, an Electrical Engineer focused on pioneering software and systems to boost safety and efficiency. Technically responsible for the world’s first truly remotely operated longwall at Oaky North, Loz is a Fellow of the IOM3 — recognised for his contribution to mining automation worldwide.
Jon Freihaut
Director and Longwall Operations Specialist
Jon Freihaut, Co-Founder and Director of Mapped Out Solutions, leverages extensive underground coal mining experience to optimise Longwall Operations. Known for clear communication, he aligns teams to deliver tailored Management Operating Systems (MOS) that tackle operational challenges.
Chris Neale
Technology Manager and Control Systems Specialist
Chris is a dedicated Technology Manager and Systems Engineer with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 15 years of experience in Australia’s underground coal mining industry. As a certified Functional Safety Engineer, Chris excels in developing real-time mission-critical software, mobile machinery design, and advanced automation solutions that boost safety and operational efficiency in some of the nation’s toughest mining environments.
Pat Moore
Operational Manager (Open Cut) and Mining Engineer
Patrick brings over a decade of open cut mining experience to the Mapped Out Solutions team, having worked across a wide variety of roles and sites. As a qualified Mining Engineer, Patrick recognises what it takes to be part of and to run high-pressure, high-stakes technical teams where safety, efficiency, and real-world outcomes matter most.
Oliver Howell
UK Regional Manager
Oliver is the UK Regional Manager and a shareholder at Mapped Out Solutions. With a background in mechanical systems, control and automation and reliability, he has worked across OEM and mining operations. A systems engineer by trade, he ensures gated processes are followed for successful project delivery. He’s a committed champion of the MOS methodology, with proven success delivering frameworks at Glencore, Tarmac, and Komatsu.
